The Saferider - Passenger Controlled Manriding WInch

Man-riding operations are dangerous.

Miscommunication and inattention have lead to horrific injuries and fatalities.

The drilling industry now has a product that will prevent many of these injuries from occurring. The SafeRider allows the passenger to take control of the man-riding operation through the patented use of multi-conductor wire to both hoist the passenger and allow for hard-wired control of the winch while suspended. Features:

«Passenger Control Pendant
«Local Winch Control if required.
«Local Push To Operate Button
«Remote Emergency Stop Override
«150kg SWL
«Designed and constructed to international standards.
«Dual Redundant Brakes - 180% rated
«Suitable for Class 1 Zone 1 Operation
«Class Society Type Approval
«Visible “Winch in Use” Beacon (Optional)
«Remote Signaling Bell (Optional)

Unlike other solutions that utilize a radio signal which may be at best unreliable or, at worst, dangerous when handling explosives, the SafeRider is the only hard wired, fail safe solution that uses oil-field proven equipment and a simple, easy to troubleshoot control system. The SafeRider is the most effective way to eliminate the major injury causes in man-riding - miscommunication and inattention. Now is the time to prevent these injuries and make the most positive yet simple step forward in drilling safety this decade.

Features

Passenger Control Pendant

The pendant is connected to the winch controls on an intrinsically safe circuit through a multi-conductor (electric line) lifting wire, through slip rings to the winch control box.

Oil-field Proven Technology

The SafeRider operates in a similar manner and using similar equipment to a Sub-sea TV camera or ROV unit. This technology and equipment is oil-field proven.

Simple Control Mechanism

The control assembly is made without the use of PLC hardware and features simple logic, allowing for easy rig maintenance.

Soft Start and Stop

The SafeRider includes a variable speed drive, pneumatic soft start or electro-hydraulic proportioning valve to ensure the rider experiences a smooth start and stop, lessening the risk of back or muscular injuries.

Lockout and Tagout Friendly

The emergency stop and local, remote, off switches both feature lockout hardware that eases safe maintenance practices.

Flashing Beacon and Signaling Bell

These optional features add an additional layer of safety, The beacon indicates to the drill floor that personnel are working overhead and that the area is hazardous. The bell allows the passenger to signal the winch operator.

Local Push to Operate Button

To prevent unauthorized single person use of the man-rider, a push to operate button has been incorporated on the local console. This must be pressed periodically for the remote functions to operate.

Dual Redundant (Fail-safe) Braking

The winch features a fail-safe operational brake attached to the motor and a manual parking brake. Each brake is rated at 180% of the SWL capacity of the winch.

Type Approval

Type approval is a voluntary and rigorous design and manufacture review by an independent competent body, such as the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

Key Switch Emergency Stop Over-ride

In the event that the passenger has operated their emergency stop and subsequently is unable to disable it (through incapacitation) the local winch operator can over ride the emergency stop with a key switch.

Local Control

If the passenger is busy and cannot control the winch by hand, the local operator can control the winch under their instruction.

Cost

The SafeRider is comparatively and fairly priced with standard man-riders, considering the additional control system. Given the cost of serious injuries, the inexpensive Saferider pays for itself many times over.
